I Wish to Go . . . to Yellowstone National Park
Imagine looking outside the window one day and seeing a large bison walking through your front yard. Or seeing a grizzly bear being chased by three coyotes! For most of us, this sounds like pure fantasy, but not for 10-year-old Daniel who experienced these very real adventures during his unforgettable wish trip to Yellowstone National Park with his family. “I saw lots of wildlife,” Daniel excitedly recalled. He even had the opportunity to enjoy one of his favorite hobbies while on vacation. “We went fishing in Yellowstone Lake. I caught three lake trout. It was a lot of fun.
When Daniel’s family wasn’t busy encountering all kinds of wildlife during their week long stay in Wyoming, they could be found enjoying a lovely Sunset Tour or watching the many amazing geysers in the area erupt. “We saw Old Faithful erupt three times,” Daniel noted. “The geysers were very colorful.
It came as no surprise to Daniel’s mother, Therese, that her son chose Yellowstone as his wish. “Daniel is such a nature lover,” she said. She mentioned he was anticipating the trip long before they left and that he would much rather spend time outdoors than watch television. As a matter of fact, the whole family has fond memories of the vacation and how the trip was conducted. “Everything went so smoothly; we didn’t have to worry about everything!” Therese explained.
In addition to the beautiful weather and unique activities, Daniel’s family was relieved to be away
from the medical treatments and hospital stays they have endured since Daniel was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma. The vacation put them in a different place, both physically and emotionally. Therese maintains “it was very helpful to return back to normal.”
The Yellowstone get away was so wonderful that the family is planning a similar trip to Yosemite National Park. As for Daniel, he still is talking about his magical vacation in the great outdoors, proclaiming his wish was the best vacation ever!
